Tiberius, 14 - 37 AD
AE 32 of Emerita Augusta

Bust left / City gate

Emerita Ruins Photo
Comment- Unusual placement of the legend, on the wall with 2 door openings. The top arch probably represents a birds-eye view of the surrounding wall with the rest of the towers. And no, the obverse picture isn't placed backwards! The obverse legend reads right to left, counterclockwise. DIVVS AVGVSTVS

AE 28 of Emerita Augusta

Bust left / City gate

Comment- A slightly different, less fancy version of the coin above.

Tiberius, 14 - 37 AD
AE 26 of Emerita Augusta

Bust left / City gate

Comment- The more commonly seen Provincial version of the Emerita gate and wall. The greenish patina highlights what little is left on this worn coin.

Augustus, 27 BC - 14 AD
Silver Denarius

Bare head left / City gate with Emerita inscribed above it

Comment- Struck 25 - 23 BC at the Emerita mint in Lusitania, by P. Carisius. He was the governor of the province of Lusitania, and in 25 BC he founded the colony of Emerita Augusta. The obverse has the commonly seen banker's mark.
